Charitable Giving

While The Crumley House offers many day-training and transitional living services for brain-injury survivors that are unavailable elsewhere in this region of the country, we are planning an expansion of the current facility that will allow more brain-injured survivors to access our much-needed services. We also wish to ensure that The Crumley House will be able to continue to operate and serve this population for years to come. To this end, we have formed The Crumley House Brain Injury Foundation to raise the funds necessary to ensure these victims receive the unique assistance and services they need in their second chance at life. There are a number of ways you can help.

Gifts of Stock or Real Estate

A gift of appreciated property generally offers a two-fold tax savings. First, you may receive an income tax deduction for the full market value of the property at the date of the gift. Second, you may avoid paying the capital gains tax you would have incurred on the appreciation in value had you sold the property. These tax savings apply to gifts of stock as well as gifts of real estate such as residence, vacation home, farm, acreage, or even a vacant lot that has risen in value over time.

Gifts of Life Insurance

You can often receive a significant charitable deduction by donating a life insurance policy that you no longer need. Simply designate The Crumley House Brain Injury Foundation as both the owner and the beneficiary of the policy. Your insurance agent can provide the details.

Gifts of Cash

The Crumley House is incorporated under the provisions of Section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code. As such, gifts of cash are fully deductible up to 50% of your adjusted gross income. For example, if your adjusted gross income is $50,000 this year, you may deduct up to $25,000 of charitable donations. You are generally allowed to carry forward and deduct any excess donations for as many as five years in the future. Please contact us regarding cash and/or credit card donations.

Charitable Lead Trusts

The Charitable Lead Trust allows you to pass assets to your children and/or grandchildren while minimizing estate taxes. Under this agreement, you transfer assets to a trust that makes payments to The Crumley House Brain Injury Foundation for a specified number of years. The trust then transfers the assets to your heirs.

Charitable Remainder Trusts

The Charitable Remainder Trust allows you to provide for yourself and/or a loved one yet still receive a charitable deduction as well as save capital gains and estate taxes. You fund a Charitable Remainder Trust with cash or appreciated property and received income from the assets for your lifetime. After your lifetime, and perhaps that of a loved one, the trust distributes the remaining assets to The Crumley House.

Bequests

You can include The Crumley House in your will in several ways. You can designate an outright dollar amount or a specified percentage of your estate. You can name The Crumley House as a remainder beneficiary to receive funds only after specific sums are paid to individual beneficiaries. You can easily add The Crumley House to your will through an amendment called a codicil.
